What Is the Datascope 040-000056-00 Compatible Temperature Probe?

The TS-MRB-PG30 is a compatible aftermarket replacement, not an OEM part, for the Datascope / Mindray 040-000056-00 pediatric general-purpose temperature probe. It is a reusable, single-channel probe for continuous oral or rectal core temperature monitoring in pediatric patients. It connects directly to the monitor’s temperature input without an adapter cable. Its electrical characteristics match the OEM probe, so readings stay consistent with what clinicians expect from the original part.

Compatible Monitor Models

This probe is compatible with the Datascope / Mindray Passport V, V-Series, V12, and V21 patient monitors, which use a 5-pin, D-shaped keyed temperature connector. It also works with the Contec MS400 patient simulator, so biomedical technicians can use it for bench testing and preventive maintenance checks. It is not intended for the newer Mindray BeneView, iPM, iMEC, or ePM platforms, which use a different connector. It is also not intended for older Datascope monitors that take 400-series mono-plug probes.

Design and Construction

The probe has a 0.13 in (3.2 mm) general-purpose tip. The tip is smaller than the adult version for more comfortable placement in pediatric patients. It sits on a 10 ft (3.0 m) cable that reaches from a bedside or transport-mounted monitor without straining the connector. The sensing element is an NTC thermistor with a nominal resistance of 2.252 kΩ at 77 °F (25 °C), and it reads accurately from 77 °F to 113 °F (25 °C to 45 °C). The keyed 5-pin connector seats in only one orientation, which prevents misconnection. Each probe ships non-sterile in an individual bag and is designed to be cleaned and disinfected between patients according to facility protocol.

When to Replace Your Temperature Probe

Reusable temperature probes wear out from repeated cleaning, flexing, and plugging in and out. Replace the probe if the cable jacket is cracked, discolored, or stiff, or if the tip or strain relief is damaged. Bent or corroded pins on the monitor connector are also a reason to replace it. Watch for readings that drift, fluctuate, or disagree with a reference thermometer. Intermittent “probe off” or “temp error” alarms that clear when the cable is moved are another warning sign. Take a probe out of service immediately if it fails a patient-simulator check during preventive maintenance. Keeping a spare pediatric probe on hand avoids gaps in temperature monitoring in pediatric and PACU areas.
