What Is the Datascope 040-000058-00 Compatible Temperature Probe?

The TS-MRB-PS30 is a compatible aftermarket replacement for the Datascope / Mindray 040-000058-00 pediatric/neonate skin surface temperature probe. It is not an OEM part. The probe is reusable and single-channel, and it provides continuous, non-invasive skin temperature monitoring for pediatric and neonatal patients. Typical settings include the NICU, pediatric ICU, and pediatric surgical and recovery areas. It connects directly to the monitor’s temperature input, so no adapter cable is needed. Its electrical characteristics match the OEM probe, so readings stay consistent with what clinicians expect from the original part.

Compatible Monitor Models

This probe is compatible with the Datascope / Mindray Passport V, V-Series, V12, and V21 patient monitors, which use a 5-pin, D-shaped keyed temperature connector. It also works with the Contec MS400 patient simulator, so biomedical technicians can use it for bench testing and preventive maintenance checks. It is not intended for the newer Mindray BeneView, iPM, iMEC, or ePM platforms, which use a different connector. It is also not intended for older Datascope monitors that take 400-series mono-plug probes.

Design and Construction

The probe ends in a flat 0.24 in (6.0 mm) sensing disc. This disc is smaller than the 9.0 mm disc on the adult skin probe, so it fits small patients and neonates. It is typically held in place with an adhesive skin probe cover. The 10 ft (3.0 m) cable reaches a bedside or transport-mounted monitor without straining the connector. The sensing element is an NTC thermistor with a nominal resistance of 2.252 kΩ at 77 °F (25 °C), and it reads accurately from 77 °F to 113 °F (25 °C to 45 °C). The keyed 5-pin connector seats in only one orientation, which prevents misconnection. Each probe ships non-sterile in an individual bag. It is designed to be cleaned and disinfected between patients according to facility protocol.

When to Replace Your Temperature Probe

Reusable skin temperature probes wear out from repeated cleaning, adhesive removal, flexing, and plugging and unplugging. Replace the probe if the cable jacket is cracked, discolored, or stiff. The same applies to a damaged or lifting sensing disc, a torn strain relief, or bent or corroded connector pins. Also replace it if readings drift, fluctuate, or disagree with a reference thermometer. Intermittent “probe off” or “temp error” alarms that clear when the cable is moved are another warning sign. Remove any probe that fails a patient-simulator check during preventive maintenance from service immediately. In neonatal settings, even small temperature errors matter, so keeping a spare on hand is recommended.
