Design and Construction

The soft tip design wraps the fingertip without the spring pressure of a hard shell clip. That improves comfort during extended monitoring, reduces pressure points on fragile skin, and helps the sensor stay in place on restless patients. It is sized for adult patients weighing more than 66 lbs (30 kg). The 9.8 ft (3.0 m) cable gives enough reach to run from a pole- or cart-mounted monitor to the patient without an extension. The sensor is reusable and supplied one per bag.

When to Replace Your 2652 DBI-dc8 SpO2 Sensor

Because a direct-connect sensor’s cable runs all the way to the monitor, the cable takes more handling than a short sensor. Wear shows up at the soft tip, along the cable, and at the monitor connector. Replace the sensor when the soft tip material is torn, stretched, or hardened and no longer holds the finger securely, the emitter or detector windows are scratched or discolored, the connector is cracked or has bent pins, or the cable shows cuts, kinks, or exposed shielding. Persistent “sensor off” alarms or readings that drop out when the cable is moved also point to a failing sensor. If a sensor fails to read on a monitor that passes self-test, try a known-good sensor to isolate the fault quickly.
