The Philips Avalon CL Wireless Transducer Base Station (866074) is the hub of the Philips Avalon CL cableless fetal monitoring system — the docking station, charger, and wireless gateway that transforms a wired Avalon fetal monitor into a fully cableless L&D solution. A single 866074 base station docks up to three cableless fetal transducers (866075 Toco+ MP, 866076 Ultrasound, and 866077 ECG/IUP) plus one maternal parameters slot for an IntelliVue CL Pod or range extension module, with a total assignment capacity of four CL transducers and two CL Pods. It connects to any Philips Avalon FM20, FM30, FM40, or FM50 fetal monitor via the fetal sensor socket — or to the rear telemetry connectors on the FM40 and FM50 — and delivers a line-of-sight operating range of up to 100 m (300 ft).

Docked transducers and pods are assigned and recharged automatically, so labor teams can grab a patient-ready device and apply it with no setup. The 866074 base station is required for all Avalon CL transducers and pods. IPR Medical sells, buys, repairs, and stocks parts for the Philips Avalon CL system — including base stations, transducers, antennas, power supplies, and replacement batteries. The hub of the Avalon CL cableless system

Every Avalon CL cableless transducer and every IntelliVue CL Pod needs a base station, and the 866074 is it. The base station is the wireless gateway between the cableless devices and the Philips Avalon fetal monitor — it receives the radio signals from docked or untethered transducers, handles pairing and identification, charges the transducer batteries, and passes the measurement data to the monitor for display, recording, and alarm processing. Without the 866074, the 866075, 866076, and 866077 transducers cannot be used. It is the single required piece of equipment that enables every cableless workflow on an Avalon FM20, FM30, FM40, or FM50.

Three fetal slots plus one maternal slot

The 866074 is designed with three docking slots for cableless fetal transducers — enough to cover the full Avalon CL lineup simultaneously (Toco+ MP, Ultrasound, and ECG/IUP) — plus a fourth slot dedicated to maternal parameters or a range extension module. That fourth slot is where the IntelliVue CL SpO2 and CL NBP Pods charge and pair, enabling fully cableless maternal vital signs alongside fetal monitoring. A single base station can have up to four CL transducers and two CL Pods assigned to it, so a facility can monitor twins or triplets with multiple ultrasound transducers while simultaneously tracking maternal pulse oximetry and blood pressure wirelessly.

100 m range and automatic assignment

The 866074 communicates with docked and in-use transducers over Philips IntelliVue Instrument Telemetry — a Short-Range Radio (IEEE 802.15.4) protocol that delivers a line-of-sight operating range of up to 100 m (300 ft). That range is what makes labor ambulation, shower monitoring, and birthing tub hydrotherapy practical on Avalon CL. Assignment is automatic: when a transducer or pod is docked at the base station, it is paired and charged without any manual configuration. Clinicians simply pick up a patient-ready device and apply it — no menu navigation, no numeric pairing codes, no dropped traces when a patient leaves the room for imaging or a walk.

Connects to any Avalon FM20/30/40/50

The 866074 plugs into any fetal sensor socket on the Avalon FM20, FM30, FM40, or FM50 — or into the dedicated rear telemetry connectors on the FM40 and FM50. For larger L&D floors, the FM40 and FM50 can host two base stations simultaneously (one on each telemetry socket), expanding transducer and pod capacity. When two base stations are connected, the base station on the left telemetry socket is used for primary radio communication and should be mounted for optimal RF line of sight; the second base station can be placed in a drawer or enclosed space since it handles charging and assignment only. Avalon fetal monitor software release J.3 or higher is required to operate the Avalon CL system, and the CL2 software option (license-dependent) is required to enable the IntelliVue CL Pods.

Built-in alarms and transducer management

The base station monitors every assigned device continuously. Loss-of-radio alarms alert clinicians if a transducer moves out of range or loses signal due to interference, low-battery and out-of-battery alarms flag a transducer before the trace is interrupted, and malfunction alarms indicate a hardware fault. Each slot on the front panel has status LEDs — green or yellow indicators that signal when a docked device is ready for use. An on/stand-by switch on the front panel controls the base station operating mode; wired transducers can continue to be used on the fetal monitor with the base station in stand-by, no cable disconnection required.

Flexible mounting for any L&D layout

At approximately 13.7 × 7.2 × 2.9 inches and 2.2 lbs, the 866074 fits in a standard cart drawer (Philips Carts CL, CX, and CM are all designed to accommodate it), on top of a cart or desk using the supplied mounting brackets, on top of the FM40/50 fetal monitor directly, or on a GCX adapter for articulated wall or pole mounting. A remote antenna system is also available for installations where the base station cannot be mounted with good RF line of sight — typically required when the 866074 is placed inside a metal drawer or cabinet. IPR Medical can advise on antenna extension configurations for challenging installations.

Common failure modes and what we fix

In field use, the most common reasons for 866074 failure are liquid damage to the charging contacts, physical damage to the housing from drops or cart impacts, and power supply issues. IPR Medical services all of these — contact cleaning, housing and bracket replacement, power supply and switchboard PCA repair or replacement, antenna socket service, and full functional testing using Philips-specified test procedures. We also handle firmware and software updates to bring older base stations up to the current Avalon CL release, which is required when customers upgrade their FM20/30/40/50 monitors to newer software revisions.
