The non-woven adhesive wrap is sized to fit around a neonate’s foot or an adult’s finger, holding the emitter and detector in alignment through movement during continuous monitoring. The sensor is intended for neonates weighing less than 6.6 lbs (3 kg) or adults weighing more than 88 lbs (40 kg); patients in between should use an infant or pediatric sensor. The 3.0 ft (0.9 m) cable terminates in a Masimo LNCS connector. Each sensor is single-patient use, and sensors are packaged 20 per box.

Persistent “sensor off” or low-signal alarms on a well-perfused patient are also a cue to apply a fresh sensor at a new site. Keeping adequate box stock on NICU and labor and delivery units prevents staff from reusing sensors past their intended life.
