Practivet Infusion Pump
The Practivet IV Infusion Pump is a peristaltic large-volume pump designed specifically for veterinary practice — compact and lightweight, with human-grade safety features, a large LCD display. It handles the daily reality of a treatment area: adjustable air-in-line and occlusion thresholds, free flow protection, anti-bolus function, and up to 1,500 infusion events stored in an on-board event log. The pole clamp removes and reattaches easily in vertical or horizontal orientation, or swap it for the included carabiner clips for cage mounting.
Three infusion modes — Rate, Time, and Dose (Weight) — cover routine fluid therapy through weight-based drug protocols, and intermittent bolus programming handles scheduled dose cycling automatically. IPR Medical calibrates to multiple IV set brands, so your Practivet fleet can keep running without interruption if your preferred set brand experiences a supply disruption.

Overview
The Practivet IV Infusion Pump (PV1000) is a peristaltic large-volume veterinary infusion pump built for the day-to-day demands of a small animal practice. It’s compact and lightweight at approximately 2.2 lbs, mounts on a vertical or horizontal pole clamp or clips directly onto a cage with the included carabiner clips, and delivers ±2% flow rate accuracy with human-grade safety features — adjustable air-in-line and occlusion detection, free flow protection, and an anti-bolus function. The large LCD display shows everything at a glance: tubing type, infusion mode, current rate, VTBI, volume delivered, line pressure, battery status, and time. The same intuitive interface carries over directly from the Practivet Syringe Pump, which means facilities running both platforms don’t need separate training tracks for each device.
Infusion Modes and Programming
The Practivet IV pump offers three core infusion modes. Rate Mode takes a flow rate and VTBI and runs until volume is delivered or the pump is stopped. Time Mode calculates the required flow rate based on the desired volume and infusion duration — useful when the goal is completion at a specific time rather than a specific ml/h rate. Dose Mode (Body Weight) incorporates patient weight, drug unit, concentration, and VTBI into the rate calculation, reducing manual calculations and associated error risk at the point of care. Loading previous infusion settings is a single-key function, and switching between modes mid-session doesn’t require reprogramming from scratch.
Bolus delivery is supported in both manual and automatic modes. Pressing and holding the BOLUS key when the pump is not infusing primes the set at 600 ml/h — useful for clearing air bubbles or priming administration sets before connecting to a patient. For in-infusion boluses, the desired bolus rate (programmable from 300 to 1200 ml/h) and VTBI are pre-set in the settings interface; pressing BOLUS during infusion delivers the programmed volume and automatically reverts to the maintenance rate when complete. Intermittent bolus programming allows scheduled cycling — program a bolus and maintenance rate together, and the pump cycles automatically between them according to the defined parameters.
In-Clinic Calibration and Administration Set Flexibility
One of the Practivet IV pump’s most practical features for busy clinics is its in-clinic calibration capability. The pump stores up to 10 distinct tube calibrations (labeled A through J) — one for each administration set type in your formulary. The calibration process takes less than 10 minutes and doesn’t require sending the pump to a service center. Once calibrated to a tube type, the correct calibration is selected before each infusion by verifying the tube label displayed in the top left corner of the running screen. The pump is pre-calibrated to Practivet administration sets from the factory, and supports Practivet macro drop, micro drop, and needle-free sets, as well as Abbott/Hospira and Baxter FloGard sets. IPR Medical calibrates to multiple IV set brands — so if your preferred set brand experiences a supply disruption, your Practivet fleet keeps running without interruption.
Safety Alarms and Detection
The Practivet IV pump incorporates adjustable air-in-line and occlusion detection thresholds, free flow protection, and an anti-bolus function. The running display includes a real-time graphic line pressure indicator that gives visual warning as occlusion pressure builds — before the alarm threshold is reached — allowing staff to intervene proactively. Alarm sensitivity for both air-in-line and occlusion can be adjusted in the settings interface to match the characteristics of the administration set and medication being infused. Silencing an air-in-line alarm requires both pressing the SILENCE key and opening the pump door, which forces verification before the pump can be restarted. A keypad lock prevents accidental parameter changes during active infusions, with a configurable idle timeout, and night mode dims the backlight and reduces alarm volume for overnight ward settings while keeping all visual and audible alarms active.
Event Log, Connectivity, and Software
The Practivet IV pump stores up to 1,500 infusion events on-board — including infusions, alarms, and calibration records — accessible directly from the Log menu or uploadable to a computer for recordkeeping. Wi-Fi connectivity is built in, enabling network-based log management and software updates. The pump also supports software field updates, and a configurable maintenance reminder prompts periodic accuracy verification. A self-test function is available in the settings menu. All event logging is time-stamped, so verifying the pump’s time and date settings at setup is recommended to ensure log accuracy.
Mounting and Portability
The Practivet IV pump ships with a removable pole clamp that secures to a vertical or horizontal pole using grooves on the pump body — no tools required for repositioning between orientations, and a flathead screwdriver removes the clamp entirely. Carabiner clips are included for direct cage mounting — practical for ICU and overnight ward setups where patients may be housed away from traditional IV poles. At approximately 2.2 lbs the pump is easy to move between patients and treatment areas, and the Practivet and Syringe Pump share the same intuitive interface, making it straightforward for staff to manage both device types across a mixed fleet.
