What Is the YSI 402 Compatible Straight-Connector Pediatric Temperature Probe?

The IPR Medical TS-Y400S-PG30 is a compatible aftermarket (not OEM) pediatric general (oral/rectal) temperature probe that replaces the YSI 402. On this straight-connector version, a 0.13 in (3.2 mm) probe tip and 9.8 ft (3.0 m) of cable are paired with 400 Series temperature technology. The probe is reusable, which lets one unit serve many patients over its service life.

Compatible Monitor Models

Two brands appear on the compatibility list for this straight-connector pediatric probe: Edan, with seven models running from the Elite V5 to the iM80, and GE Healthcare, with the B40. Make sure your unit is one of those eight models, as shown on the Specifications tab, before placing an order.

Design and Construction

Pediatric sizing, a 0.13 in (3.2 mm) tip for oral or rectal readings, a straight connector, and a 9.8 ft (3.0 m) cable make up the specification of the TS-Y400S-PG30, which uses 400 Series temperature technology. Packed one probe per bag, it should be reprocessed between patients in line with facility protocol and inspected before it goes back into use.

When to Replace Your Straight-Connector Pediatric Probe

Signs of a failing probe include temperatures that jump between readings, values that never stabilize, and results well away from a reference measurement. Look as well for cracks near the tip, a jacket that is worn through, and a connector that is bent or loose. Running the same check with a second probe of this type on the same monitor shows whether the probe or the monitor is at fault.
