The Smiths Medical HOTLINE® 3 Blood and Fluid Warmer (Model HL-390-38) — now distributed by ICU Medical — is a proven routine-flow fluid warming system designed to deliver blood and IV fluids to patients at normothermic temperatures under gravity flow conditions. The HOTLINE 3 uses a closed recirculating solution system that surrounds the sterile IV line with a continuous layer of warmed fluid, eliminating patient line cool-down from the warmer all the way to the access site. The proprietary triple-lumen tubing design keeps the infusate path warm without exposing it to any direct heating element. The HL-390-38 sets a recirculating solution temperature of 38°C, with an electronic primary control circuit that limits recirculating solution to 38°C maximum and an independent watchdog circuit that alarms and stops the pump at 39.2°C — keeping the system inherently free of hot spots. Compatible with the HOTLINE® 3 L-370 Fluid Warming Set (single-use, sold separately), the HL-390 mounts to a standard IV pole and serves operating rooms, recovery rooms, ICUs, and emergency departments handling patients at risk of hypothermia.
