It uses a strain-gauge pressure sensor to detect uterine activity by evaluating the hardness of the maternal abdomen during labor, transmitting the signal wirelessly to the CTS base so the patient retains freedom of movement during antepartum testing and labor and delivery. This is a compatible aftermarket part — not a Philips-manufactured product — sold and supported by IPR Medical.

    The Philips Avalon Toco+ MP Transducer (M2735A) is the most versatile wired Smart Transducer in the Avalon family — it measures uterine activity via external Toco, captures maternal pulse with built-in Smart Pulse, and accepts adapter cables for direct fetal ECG (DECG), maternal ECG (MECG), or intrauterine pressure (IUP). One transducer covers four measurement modes, which is why labor and delivery floors keep the M2735A on hand even when most patients are monitored externally.

    The Toco+ MP connects to any of the four fetal sensor sockets on Avalon FM20, FM30, FM40, or FM50 monitors via a standard D-shaped connector. Smart Pulse is always active when the transducer is applied, feeding maternal pulse into the monitor’s Cross-Channel Verification (CCV) feature to reduce the risk of mistaking maternal pulse for fetal heart rate. When DECG, MECG, or IUP monitoring is needed, the user simply plugs the appropriate adapter cable into the transducer’s auxiliary connector — the monitor automatically detects the mode.
