Enteralite Infinity (Orange)
The Moog Infinity® Orange is the small-volume specialist in Moog Medical’s Infinity enteral feeding pump family — purpose-built for patients who require low-rate, low-volume feedings with a level of precision and safety that standard-volume pumps are not optimized to deliver. Most commonly prescribed for neonates, infants, and young children receiving human milk or formula in NICU, PICU, and home care settings, the Infinity Orange delivers at rates from 0.1 to 300 ml/h with ±5% accuracy and reduces both priming volume (~5.5 ml) and residual volume (~2.0 ml) to a fraction of what standard pumps leave behind — critical factors when every milliliter of human milk or specialized formula has clinical significance.
The Orange is housed in the same compact, orientation-independent shell as the Infinity Blue, sharing identical dimensions (4.05″ H × 5.65″ W × 1.95″ D) and sub-one-pound weight (14.4 oz). It operates in any position, runs up to 24 hours on a single charge. But where the Blue is optimized for a broad range of adult and pediatric patients, the Orange adds two features unique to its small-volume focus: a FOOD TYPE selection that lets clinicians specify formula or human milk so the pump can account for viscosity differences in its delivery, and a lower-speed priming function (~360 ml/h vs. ~700 ml/h for the Blue) that reduces the pressure and volume risk during priming for fragile neonatal patients. Orange-colored delivery set tubing provides an additional visual cue distinguishing enteral from IV lines at the bedside.

Overview
The Moog Infinity® Orange is the small-volume model in the Infinity enteral feeding pump family, sharing the same compact, orientation-independent platform as the standard Infinity (Blue) but purpose-engineered for the precision demands of neonatal, infant, and small-volume pediatric feeding. Where the Infinity Blue serves the broad range of adult and pediatric tube-feeding patients, the Orange is configured specifically for patients — most commonly neonates, premature infants, and medically complex young children — who require low-rate delivery of small volumes of human milk or formula with a level of accuracy, misconnection safety, and dead-volume control that standard-range enteral pumps cannot adequately provide. It is widely used in NICUs, PICUs, pediatric home health programs, and specialty pediatric practices.
Small-Volume Design: Why the Orange Exists
The clinical rationale for the Infinity Orange comes down to three interrelated factors that become critical when volumes are small and patients are fragile: priming volume, residual volume, and delivery precision at low rates. The standard Infinity Blue has a priming volume of approximately 15.0 ml and a residual volume of approximately 11.5 ml — representing the amount of formula or milk that fills the tubing before delivery begins and the amount left in the set at the end of a feeding. For an adult patient receiving 1,200 ml of formula overnight, these volumes are clinically insignificant rounding errors. For a premature infant prescribed a 30 ml feeding of expressed breast milk, a 15.0 ml priming volume and 11.5 ml residual represent more than the entire prescribed dose in wasted fluid — formula or milk that the patient never receives, and that the caregiver must account for to avoid under-dosing.
The Infinity Orange addresses this by redesigning the cassette and delivery set geometry to reduce priming volume to approximately 5.5 ml and residual volume to approximately 2.0 ml — a reduction of roughly 70% in both metrics. This means that in small-volume pediatric feeding scenarios, far more of the prescribed formula or human milk actually reaches the patient, dose accountability is more accurate, and the waste of expensive or scarce donor breast milk or specialty formula is substantially reduced.
Human Milk and the FOOD TYPE Key
The most functionally distinctive feature of the Infinity Orange versus the Infinity Blue is the FOOD TYPE key — a dedicated keypad button that replaces the FEED INT (interval feeding) key found on the Blue. Before starting each feeding, the clinician or caregiver presses FOOD TYPE and selects either Formula or Human Milk. This setting adjusts the pump’s delivery algorithm to account for the viscosity differences between standard commercial formula and human breast milk, which can vary significantly based on fat content, fortification, and temperature. Human milk — particularly at low rates — behaves differently through the peristaltic mechanism than formula, and failing to account for this can affect accuracy at the margins of the clinical specification. The FOOD TYPE setting is unique to the Infinity Orange; it is not available on the Infinity Blue.
An important operational note: the pump’s volume delivered counter resets to zero and the food type resets to Formula each time the pump is powered off and back on. This is a deliberate safety behavior — clinicians must actively confirm rate, dose, and food type before restarting a feeding after any power cycle. Any changes to rate or dose during a feeding cycle cause the pump to start a new feeding from zero rather than resuming from where it left off, which is equally intentional. For a neonatal patient on a precisely prescribed feeding schedule, these confirmation requirements reduce the risk that a feeding is restarted with incorrect parameters carried over silently from a previous session.
Flow Range, Priming, and Safety for Fragile Patients
The Infinity Orange delivers from 0.1 to 300 ml/h — a ceiling deliberately set at half the Infinity Blue’s 600 ml/h maximum. The 300 ml/h maximum reflects the clinical reality that patients appropriate for the Orange are not candidates for high-rate infusions. Dose increment precision is 0.1 ml from 0.1 to 10 ml and 1 ml from 10 to 3,000 ml, enabling the fine-grained programming that neonatal and infant feeding prescriptions demand. The priming rate of approximately 360 ml/h (versus ~700 ml/h for the Blue) is also a deliberate design choice: the lower priming rate reduces the pressure and bolus volume that could be inadvertently delivered if a priming operation is performed while the set is connected to the patient, or if the prime is initiated with excessive force. For catheters in premature infants, this margin matters.
Accuracy remains the same as the Infinity Blue — ±5% at any flow rate and in any orientation. The optical air-in-line sensor fires the NO FOOD alarm when approximately the equivalent of air enters the teal tubing section. Upstream and downstream occlusion thresholds are also identical to the Blue: −5 psi (−34 kPa) upstream and 12 psi (83 kPa) downstream. The pump operates in any physical orientation, supporting patients who are held, carried in a backpack, seated in a stroller, or lying in a NICU incubator at any angle.
Color-Coded Safety and ENFit Misconnection Prevention
The Infinity Orange’s delivery sets feature orange-colored tubing — a deliberate color-coding decision that provides at-a-glance visual identification of the enteral line at the bedside. In a neonatal or pediatric ICU where a patient may simultaneously have IV lines, arterial lines, and an enteral feeding set, color differentiation is a low-cost, high-value safety measure. All Infinity Orange delivery sets use ENFit connectors compliant with ISO 80369-3, which have a unique asymmetric thread design that is physically incompatible with IV Luer connectors — preventing the most dangerous category of enteral misconnection, where enteral formula is accidentally delivered into an intravenous line. A transitional stepped connector is included in each set for patients whose feeding tubes predate the ENFit standard. All sets are DEHP-free and latex-free.
Delivery Sets, Consumables, and the Screw Cap Set
The Infinity Orange is compatible with six delivery set configurations, two of which are unique to the Orange: the Infinity Orange Screw Cap Set (INFOCAP-A) and the Infinity Orange 100 ml Bag Set (INF0100-A). The Screw Cap Set is designed for standard feeding bottles with a 40 mm opening and is particularly well-suited for neonatal units that use commercially pre-filled bottles or that receive expressed breast milk in standard laboratory-type containers. The 100 ml Bag Set provides a small-format refillable bag option ideal for patients whose per-feed volume is measured in tens of milliliters rather than hundreds. Both sets reduce the dead space contributed by excess upstream tubing.
The Orange also accepts the three larger-format sets shared with the Blue (500 ml Bag Set INF0500-A, 500 ml ENFit-only Set INF0500-E, and 1200 ml Bag Set INF1200-A) as well as the Safety Screw Spike Set (INF0020-A), providing flexibility as patients grow and their prescribed volumes increase. Bag and screw cap sets must be replaced every 24 hours; spike sets every 48 hours with a maximum of 1.5 L delivered per set. IPR Medical stocks Infinity Orange delivery sets for facilities and home care providers.
Hospital to Home: Growing with the Infinity Family
A notable aspect of the Infinity platform’s clinical value is its designed continuity of care. Moog explicitly positions the Infinity Orange as the starting point for patients who begin tube feeding in the hospital at small volumes, with the expectation that as a patient grows — increasing feed volumes, requiring higher rates, or transitioning to home care on a long-term enteral program — the clinical team can transition them to the standard Infinity Blue without retraining caregivers on an entirely different pump. The programming interface, keypad layout, alarm structure, delivery set loading procedure, and carry pack ecosystem are nearly identical between the two models. The transition from Orange to Blue requires updating the prescribed delivery set and understanding the differences in food type selection (absent on the Blue), interval feeding (absent on the Orange), and the increased flow ceiling. Moog’s “Growing with Infinity” clinical resources support teams in managing this transition, and IPR Medical can supply both models as your patient population requires.
Cleaning, and Battery
Cleaning consists of rinsing the pump under running water with the charger disconnected and pump off; a cotton swab is used to clean the cassette receptacle pathways. The optical air sensor must be kept clean of formula and milk residue, which can adhere and cause nuisance NO FOOD alarms. The internal Lithium-Ion battery delivers approximately 24 hours of runtime at 125 ml/h and charges fully in approximately 6 hours. The compact wall charger accepts 100–240 VAC for international compatibility.
FDA Device Corrections and Safety Bulletins
The Moog Infinity Orange has FDA device correction history that facilities should verify when assessing pump inventory. A Class 2 recall specifically naming the Infinity Orange Enteral Feeding Pump (FDA ID 76985) is on record, along with Class 2 recalls for the Infinity Enteral Feeding infusion pump (FDA ID 113975) and the Infinity Enteral Pump Delivery Set with ENFit Connector System and Transitional Stepped Connector (FDA ID 141973). Class 2 recalls indicate that use of the affected products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or that the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
Action recommended: Facilities and home health agencies operating Infinity Orange pumps should verify their pump serial numbers and current delivery set lot numbers against any active recall scope in the FDA databases below. For delivery sets, inspect bags before use for signs of leakage or integrity issues, and adhere strictly to the 24-hour bag/screw cap and 48-hour spike set replacement intervals.
