What Is the Nellcor DEC-8 Compatible SpO2 Adapter Cable?

The Nellcor DEC-8 compatible SpO2 adapter cable (SKU SA-001X-24) is a reusable, aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is a 7.9 ft (2.4 m) extension cable that connects a Nellcor OxiMax-compatible SpO2 sensor to the SpO2 input of a compatible pulse oximeter or patient monitor. The monitor end is a dual-keyed male 9-pin D-sub (DB9) connector, and the sensor end is a female 9-pin D-sub (DB9) connector that accepts the sensor plug.

Compatible Monitor Models

This adapter cable is compatible with a wide range of Nellcor pulse oximeters, including the N-series (such as the N-560, N-595, and N-600x) and NPB-series (such as the NPB-40, NPB-190, NPB-295, and NPB-4000). It is also compatible with select GE Healthcare, Marquette, Mindray, Datascope, Welch Allyn, Nihon Kohden, Criticare, BCI, and Physio-Control monitors and defibrillators, along with monitors from many other manufacturers. Design and Construction

The adapter cable is designed for Nellcor OxiMax sensor technology, so it should be paired with OxiMax-compatible sensors. The dual-keyed male DB9 connector plugs into the monitor or oximeter SpO2 input, and the female DB9 connector accepts the standard 9-pin sensor plug. At 7.9 ft (2.4 m), the cable gives staff room to position the monitor away from the bedside while the sensor stays on the patient. It is reusable and ships one per bag.

When to Replace Your SpO2 Adapter Cable

Replace the adapter cable when the monitor shows sensor-off or no-sensor messages with a known-good sensor attached, or when SpO2 and pulse readings drop out or turn erratic as the cable is moved. Cracked or kinked jackets, bent pins or damaged sockets at either DB9 connector, and loose or worn connector shells are also signs the cable should be retired. Testing with a known-good adapter cable is a quick way for biomedical staff to separate a cable fault from a sensor or monitor SpO2 board fault.
