Brand History

Bair Hugger History: Augustine Medical, Arizant, 3M and Solventum

Bair Hugger units have carried several company names since the first one shipped in 1987. If your unit says Augustine Medical, Arizant, 3M or Solventum, here is where it fits and what that means for service today.

  1. 1987

    Bair Hugger is born

Augustine Medical introduces Bair Hugger therapy, creating the forced-air patient warming category.

  2. 2003–2010

    Arizant

Augustine Medical reorganizes under a new parent, Arizant Inc., of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, which sells Bair Hugger, the Ranger blood and fluid warmers and the new Bair Paws warming gown. From 2004 Arizant is majority-owned by Citigroup Venture Capital’s private equity group, which becomes Court Square Capital Partners in 2006.

  3. 2010

    3M buys Arizant

3M completes its $810 million acquisition of Arizant on October 13, 2010.

  4. 2024

    Solventum

3M spins off its health care business as Solventum on April 1, 2024, and Bair Hugger becomes a Solventum brand.

FAQ

Bair Hugger Repair Questions

Do you perform the over-temperature test on forced-air warming units?

Yes. Every Bair Hugger and Bair Paws unit we service is calibrated and passes an over-temperature test, and we replace the filter when it is due.

Who makes Bair Hugger warming units now?

Solventum. Bair Hugger began at Augustine Medical, which became Arizant. 3M bought Arizant in 2010 and spun off its health care business as Solventum in 2024, so units may carry the Arizant, 3M or Solventum name.

Do you offer preventive maintenance and calibration?

Yes. Preventive maintenance and calibration are a flat fee. Contact us or call (855) 477-8866 and we will confirm pricing for your models.

Do you provide loaner units during repair?

We don’t offer loaners. If a unit isn’t worth repairing, you can decline the estimate and we can credit that unit toward a recertified unit.

How do I send my equipment in?

Submit an RMA request online. We email you a free inbound shipping label (FedEx or UPS), and you pack and ship your equipment to our Tustin, California facility.

What does it cost if I decline the repair?

Nothing. For customers in the United States, the shipping label, the evaluation and the return of declined equipment are free. Some large or specialty equipment carries an evaluation fee, and we always tell you before you send it in.

Do your repairs come with a warranty?

Yes. Every repair includes a 90-day warranty. Recertified equipment we sell comes with a 6-month or 1-year warranty depending on the model.
