Overview

The Philips IntelliVue M3001A (Option A03C06) is the extended-measurement configuration of the IntelliVue Multi-Measurement Module for facilities using Masimo LNCS sensors. The C06 designation adds a combined invasive pressure and temperature channel to the A03 standard package, making the A03C06 capable of acquiring ECG with arrhythmia and ST monitoring, impedance respiration, Masimo SET SpO2, oscillometric NBP, and either invasive arterial pressure or core temperature — all within a single plug-and-play module that docks directly to any compatible IntelliVue host monitor. The A03C06 is the direct Masimo SET equivalent of the A01C06 and A02C06: clinically identical in every respect except that the SpO2 interface is built around a dedicated Masimo SET circuit, and Masimo LNCS sensors connect via the Masimo LNC MP-10 dual-key patient cable rather than directly or through an OxiMax adapter. This configuration is widely deployed in ICU, cardiovascular step-down, post-anesthesia care, and critical care transport environments where arterial line monitoring or core temperature tracking is standard practice alongside a Masimo LNCS sensor infrastructure. Patient demographics, up to eight hours of trend data at one-minute resolution, and active measurement settings are stored in the module itself and travel with the patient during transfers between IntelliVue host monitors.

The C06 Channel — Invasive Pressure or Temperature

The defining clinical addition in the A03C06 is the C06 measurement channel: a single combined connector on the module that accepts either an invasive pressure transducer (colored red) or a temperature probe (colored brown). This connector enables the module to deliver arterial line pressure waveforms and numerics — including systolic, diastolic, and mean — or continuous temperature monitoring, depending on which transducer or probe is connected at a given time. A critical operational detail confirmed in Philips OEM service documentation is that invasive pressure and temperature cannot be used simultaneously through this single connector. If a clinical situation requires both measurements to be active at the same time, an MMS extension module — such as the M3012A or M3015A — must be added to provide the additional channel. This constraint is specific to the C06 single-port design and applies equally across all A-option C06 configurations. For the large majority of acute care and transport situations where only one hemodynamic or thermal parameter is active at a given time, the A03C06 meets the clinical need without supplemental hardware. The invasive pressure channel supports zeroing via a dedicated button on the module and is compatible with standard Philips-approved invasive pressure transducer kits.

Masimo SET SpO2 in the C06 Configuration

The A03C06 uses the same Masimo SET SpO2 interface found in the A03 standard module, providing SpO2 saturation, pulse rate, and a real-time plethysmogram waveform using the Masimo SET signal extraction technology. Masimo SET is specifically designed to reduce erroneous readings and false alarms under conditions of patient motion and low perfusion, making it particularly well suited to hemodynamically unstable patients — exactly the population likely to be monitored via an arterial line using the C06 pressure channel. Masimo LNCS sensors connect to the module’s SpO2 port via the Masimo LNC MP-10 dual-key patient cable (Masimo part 2281), confirmed in Philips’ own product documentation as the appropriate connection method for IntelliVue Masimo SET modules and Multi-Measurement Servers. The dual-key design prevents incorrect cable orientation in fast-paced clinical environments. The addition of the C06 pressure/temperature channel does not affect the Masimo SET interface or sensor compatibility in any way — facilities already running Masimo LNCS sensors on A03 standard modules will find the A03C06 uses identical sensors and the same LNC MP-10 cable, with the C06 connector as an additional hardware feature on the module’s connector panel.

ECG, Arrhythmia, ST, and Respiration

ECG monitoring in the M3001A A03C06 supports 3-lead and 5-lead configurations using the connected ECG trunk cable and leadset. Arrhythmia analysis delivers alarm notification for lethal and non-lethal rhythm events through the host IntelliVue monitor’s alarm infrastructure, with configurable limits and lead selection. ST segment monitoring provides continuous analysis across the monitored leads with threshold-based alarms and on-screen visualization on the host display. Respiration rate is derived from thoracic impedance using the ECG electrodes already in place, adding a continuous respiratory waveform and rate numeric without any additional patient connections. All alarm processing and display are managed by the host IntelliVue monitor once the M3001A is docked or connected via MSL cable. The A03C06 is particularly suited to high-acuity environments where a complete vital signs picture — cardiac rhythm, oxygenation, blood pressure, and at least one hemodynamic line or temperature measurement — is required at the bedside alongside a Masimo LNCS sensor infrastructure.

NBP Measurement and Trend Storage

Non-invasive blood pressure measurement in the A03C06 uses the oscillometric method with adult, pediatric, and neonatal measurement modes available through the host IntelliVue monitor’s interface. Manual, automatic, and stat NBP modes are supported, with each result automatically entered into the module’s trend record alongside SpO2, ECG, respiration, and pressure or temperature values. The module stores up to eight hours of numeric trend data at one-minute resolution for all active parameters within the module itself rather than on the host monitor. When the A03C06 docks to a new IntelliVue host, this complete record uploads automatically without manual re-entry. Invasive pressure calibration and zeroing settings are also preserved in the module, meaning the clinical team does not need to reconfigure the pressure channel when the patient is reconnected at a new bedside monitor. The module retains the full patient record — including demographics, trends, and active measurement settings — for up to six hours while disconnected from any host. The NBP pneumatic assembly requires a performance calibration check once every two years per OEM service documentation.

MMS Extensions and Simultaneous Pressure and Temperature

For facilities that need simultaneous invasive pressure and temperature monitoring, the A03C06’s single shared C06 port can be supplemented with MMS extension modules. The M3012A Measurement Server Extension adds an additional pressure and temperature channel, enabling both the C06 connector on the M3001A and the extension’s channels to be used concurrently — in practice allowing one channel for invasive pressure and one for temperature at the same time. The M3015A extension adds sidestream CO2 capnography and an additional pressure/temperature channel. The M3016A adds mainstream CO2. These extensions attach physically to the M3001A and inherit power and network connectivity from the host monitor through the module without requiring separate power supplies or additional MSL cables. Facilities that routinely need simultaneous pressure and temperature may also wish to consider the A03C18 configuration, which provides a different connector arrangement supporting more concurrent measurements in a single module without an extension.

Host Monitor Connectivity and System Integration

The M3001A A03C06 connects to compatible IntelliVue host monitors in either the direct-dock configuration — locking to the rear of the host monitor without cables — or the remote configuration via MSL cable. Once connected, all monitoring, alarm, and configuration functions are managed through the host monitor’s interface. The A03C06 is compatible with the full IntelliVue MP-series platform (MP20 through MP90), the MX-series monitors, and the M3046A (M/M4 series) running Release E or higher software. When the host monitor is networked to the IntelliVue Information Center, all measurement data from the A03C06 — including invasive pressure waveforms and temperature — flows transparently for central monitoring, trend archiving, and clinical reporting alongside all other networked patient data.
