Overview

The Philips IntelliVue M3001A (Option A03C18) is the most fully featured single-module configuration available in the M3001A family for facilities using Masimo LNCS sensors. The C18 designation combines both extended measurement packages into one: the 12-lead ECG capability of the C12 option and the invasive pressure/temperature channel of the C06 option. The result is a module capable of acquiring 3-, 5-, and 12-lead ECG — including EASI-derived 12-lead ECG using only 5 electrodes — full arrhythmia and ST analysis, QT/QTc monitoring, impedance respiration, Masimo SET SpO2, oscillometric NBP, and either invasive blood pressure or temperature, all within a single plug-and-play module that docks directly to any compatible IntelliVue host monitor. The A03C18 is the direct Masimo SET equivalent of the A01C18 and A02C18: clinically identical in measurement capability across every parameter, with the SpO2 interface built around the Masimo SET circuit and LNCS sensors connecting via the LNC MP-10 dual-key patient cable (part 2281). As with all M3001A C18 configurations, invasive pressure and temperature share a single connector and cannot be used simultaneously — confirmed in Philips OEM service documentation for both the C06 and C18 options. Patient demographics, up to eight hours of trend data at one-minute resolution, and active measurement settings are stored in the module and travel with the patient between IntelliVue host monitors.

12-Lead ECG — Conventional Capture and EASI

The C18 option provides conventional 12-lead ECG capture using a 10-electrode lead set connected to a compatible 10-lead trunk cable, delivering diagnostic signal quality as defined in the ANSI/AAMI EC11-1991 standard when used with a compatible IntelliVue host monitor. Any number of electrodes between 3 and 10 can be used for ongoing ECG monitoring using conventional lead placements, giving clinical teams flexibility to apply fewer electrodes for routine rhythm monitoring and the full 10-electrode set when a documented 12-lead capture is required. When connected to the IntelliVue Information Center iX, 12-lead ECG captures can be transmitted to and stored in a compatible ECG management system, and previously acquired ECGs can be retrieved at the bedside. EASI ECG provides a parallel path to 12-lead data using only 5 electrodes in the EASI placement configuration, deriving 12-lead waveforms mathematically from the 5-electrode signal. EASI reduces the number of patient connections, minimizes interference with clinical procedures, and improves patient comfort during extended monitoring — particularly useful in post-operative recovery and transport settings where chest access is limited. Up to 12-lead ST segment analysis with configurable alarm thresholds and QT/QTc interval monitoring are also included, providing comprehensive cardiac surveillance well beyond routine arrhythmia detection.

The C18 Channel — Invasive Pressure or Temperature

The C18 option includes the same combined invasive pressure and temperature connector found in the C06 configuration. This single connector accepts either an invasive pressure transducer (colored red) or a temperature probe (colored brown), enabling the module to deliver arterial line pressure waveforms and numerics — systolic, diastolic, and mean — or continuous temperature monitoring depending on which device is connected. A critical operational detail confirmed in Philips OEM service documentation is that invasive pressure and temperature cannot be used simultaneously on this connector, and this constraint applies to both C06 and C18 configurations equally. If simultaneous pressure and temperature monitoring is required, an MMS extension module such as the M3012A or M3015A must be added. The invasive pressure channel supports zeroing via a dedicated button on the module and is compatible with standard Philips-approved invasive pressure transducer kits and adapter cables for BD, Utah, and B. Braun connector styles.

Masimo SET SpO2 in the C18 Configuration

The A03C18 uses the same Masimo SET SpO2 interface found in the A03 and A03C06 configurations, providing SpO2 saturation, pulse rate, and a real-time plethysmogram waveform. Masimo SET is designed to maintain measurement accuracy during patient motion and low perfusion conditions — characteristics particularly relevant in cardiovascular ICU and transport environments where the A03C18 is most commonly deployed, and where hemodynamic instability or artifact-prone conditions are more likely. Masimo LNCS sensors connect to the module’s SpO2 port via the Masimo LNC MP-10 dual-key patient cable (part 2281), confirmed in Philips product documentation as the appropriate connection method for IntelliVue Masimo SET modules. The dual-key design prevents incorrect cable orientation in fast-paced clinical environments. The addition of 12-lead ECG and the C18 pressure/temperature channel does not affect the Masimo SET interface or sensor compatibility. Facilities already running Masimo LNCS sensors on A03, A03C06, or A03C12 modules will find the A03C18 uses identical sensors and the same LNC MP-10 cable.

A03C18 vs. A03C06 and A03C12 — Understanding the Option Structure

The three C-option suffixes in the M3001A A03 family represent distinct additions to the A03 standard parameter set. The C06 adds the invasive pressure/temperature channel only, with no 12-lead ECG. The C12 adds conventional 12-lead ECG only, with no invasive pressure or temperature. The C18 combines both. For facilities that need both 12-lead ECG documentation and at least one hemodynamic or temperature measurement in a single Masimo SET MMS module, the A03C18 is the only configuration that delivers both without requiring a separate module or extension. For facilities that need only one of those additions, the A03C06 or A03C12 is the more focused and typically less costly selection. The invasive pressure/temperature constraint — that pressure and temperature cannot be used simultaneously on the module’s single shared connector — applies equally to the A03C06 and A03C18. Facilities that require simultaneous pressure and temperature alongside 12-lead ECG in a Masimo SET configuration should source the A03C18 paired with an M3012A or M3015A extension.

Patient Data Portability and Trend Storage

The M3001A A03C18 stores its complete patient record internally. Up to eight hours of numeric trend data at one-minute resolution — spanning ECG-derived values, SpO2, respiration, NBP, and invasive pressure or temperature — is held within the module rather than on the host monitor. Patient demographic information, active measurement settings including ECG lead configuration and display preferences, and NBP calibration data are also resident in the module. When the A03C18 docks to a new IntelliVue host, this complete record uploads automatically without manual re-entry, and both 12-lead ECG capability and the pressure channel zeroing settings are immediately available without reconfiguration. The module retains the full patient record for up to six hours while disconnected, supporting transport between the ICU and OR, imaging, or procedure areas without data loss.

MMS Extensions and Simultaneous Pressure and Temperature

For facilities that need simultaneous invasive pressure and temperature monitoring alongside the A03C18’s 12-lead ECG capability, MMS extension modules can supplement the single C18 connector. The M3012A Measurement Server Extension adds an additional pressure and temperature channel, enabling the C18 connector and the extension’s channels to be used concurrently — in practice allowing one channel for invasive pressure and one for temperature at the same time. The M3015A extension adds sidestream CO2 capnography and an additional pressure/temperature channel. The M3016A adds mainstream CO2. These extensions attach physically to the M3001A and inherit power and network connectivity from the host monitor through the module, requiring no separate power supplies or additional MSL cables.

Host Monitor Connectivity and System Integration

The M3001A A03C18 connects to compatible IntelliVue host monitors in either the direct-dock configuration or the remote configuration via MSL cable. Once connected, all monitoring, alarm, and configuration functions are managed through the host monitor’s interface. The A03C18 is compatible with the full IntelliVue MP-series platform (MP20 through MP90), the MX-series monitors, and the M3046A (M/M4 series) running Release E or higher software. When the host monitor is networked to the IntelliVue Information Center, all measurement data from the A03C18 — including 12-lead ECG captures, invasive pressure waveforms, and temperature — flows transparently for central monitoring, trend archiving, ECG storage and retrieval, and clinical reporting.
