The Philips IntelliVue M3001A (Option A04C12) is the 12-lead ECG configuration of the IntelliVue Multi-Measurement Module for facilities using Nellcor OxiMax sensors on the newer Hardware Revision C platform. Building on the A04 standard package — ECG, arrhythmia, ST, respiration, Nellcor OxiMax-compatible SpO2, and oscillometric NBP — the C12 option adds conventional 12-lead ECG capture and EASI-derived 12-lead ECG using only 5 electrodes. The A04C12 is the Hardware Revision C equivalent of the A02C12: clinically identical in 12-lead ECG capability and OxiMax sensor interface, built on the newer internal platform identified by serial number prefixes DE610, DE632, DE717, and DE907. OxiMax sensors connect through the M1943NL adapter cable as with all A02 and A04 configurations. The A04C12 is the correct choice for facilities requiring documented 12-lead ECG alongside continuous monitoring in a Nellcor OxiMax environment, without invasive pressure or temperature in the MMS module.

Overview

The Philips IntelliVue M3001A (Option A04C12) is the 12-lead ECG configuration of the IntelliVue Multi-Measurement Module for facilities using Nellcor OxiMax sensors on the Hardware Revision C platform. The C12 option adds conventional 12-lead ECG capture and EASI-derived 12-lead ECG to the A04 standard parameter set — ECG, arrhythmia, ST, respiration, Nellcor OxiMax-compatible SpO2, and oscillometric NBP — without adding invasive pressure or temperature. The A04C12 is the Hardware Revision C equivalent of the A02C12: clinically identical in 12-lead ECG capability, OxiMax SpO2 interface, and overall parameter set, built on the newer internal platform identified by serial number prefixes DE610, DE632, DE717, and DE907, where the DC/DC power circuit is integrated onto the main board rather than implemented as a separate component as in the older A02C12 hardware generations. From a bedside clinical perspective, the A02C12 and A04C12 are interchangeable — same sensors, same M1943NL adapter cable, same host monitors, same 12-lead ECG capability. The hardware distinction matters to biomedical engineering teams sourcing internal replacement parts, where the revision determines which parameter board and internal components apply. As with all M3001A variants, patient demographics, up to eight hours of trend data at one-minute resolution, and active measurement settings are stored in the module and travel with the patient between compatible IntelliVue host monitors.

12-Lead ECG — Conventional Capture and EASI

The C12 option provides two distinct paths to 12-lead ECG data within the same module. Conventional 12-lead ECG uses a 10-electrode lead set connected to a compatible 10-lead trunk cable, delivering diagnostic signal quality as defined in the ANSI/AAMI EC11-1991 standard when used with a compatible IntelliVue host monitor — the quality required for formal clinical ECG interpretation and documentation. Any number of electrodes between 3 and 10 can be used for ongoing ECG monitoring using conventional lead placements, giving clinical teams the flexibility to apply fewer electrodes for routine rhythm monitoring and the full 10-electrode set when a documented 12-lead capture is required. When connected to the IntelliVue Information Center iX, 12-lead ECG captures can be transmitted to and stored in a compatible ECG management system, and previously acquired ECGs can be retrieved at the bedside. EASI ECG provides a parallel path to 12-lead data using only 5 electrodes in the EASI configuration, deriving 12-lead waveforms mathematically from the 5-electrode signal. EASI reduces the number of patient connections, minimizes interference with clinical procedures, and improves patient comfort during extended monitoring — particularly useful in transport, post-operative recovery, and situations where chest access is limited. Up to 12-lead ST segment analysis with configurable alarm thresholds and QT/QTc interval monitoring further extend cardiac monitoring capability beyond basic rhythm surveillance.

A04C12 vs. A02C12 — Hardware Generation and Parts Compatibility

The A04C12 and A02C12 are clinically equivalent — same OxiMax SpO2 interface, same M1943NL adapter cable, same OxiMax sensors, same 12-lead ECG capability, same clinical parameters, and the same host monitor compatibility. The difference is entirely internal. The A04C12 is built on Hardware Revision C, identified by serial number prefixes DE610, DE632, DE717, and DE907. On this hardware generation, the DC/DC power circuit is integrated onto the main board, a change from the A02C12’s earlier Hardware Revision A and B units where the DC/DC board is a separate removable component. This architectural difference means internal parts are not interchangeable between the two options. Biomedical technicians sourcing parameter boards, pump assemblies, or other internal components for an A04C12 must confirm the hardware revision from the serial number prefix and option string before ordering. The A04C12 parameter board carries OEM part number M3001-68555 for the standard A04 configuration. For clinical purchasing and materials management teams, the A02C12 and A04C12 can be used in the same IntelliVue fleet without any operational difference at the bedside.

Nellcor OxiMax SpO2 and NBP Measurement

The Nellcor OxiMax-compatible SpO2 interface in the A04C12 provides SpO2 saturation, pulse rate, and a real-time plethysmogram waveform. OxiMax sensors connect to the module’s SpO2 port via the M1943NL adapter cable, which bridges the module’s 8-pin D-Connect to the OxiMax connector standard. The OxiMax platform — maintained by Medtronic — supports a broad catalog of adult, pediatric, and neonatal sensors, each carrying an embedded identification chip that communicates sensor type and calibration data to the monitor. The addition of 12-lead ECG capability through the C12 option does not affect the OxiMax interface or sensor compatibility. Facilities already running OxiMax sensors on A04 standard modules or A02C12 modules will find the A04C12 uses identical sensors and the same M1943NL adapter cable. Non-invasive blood pressure measurement uses the oscillometric method with adult, pediatric, and neonatal modes. The NBP pneumatic assembly requires a calibration check once every two years per OEM service documentation.

A04C12 vs. A04C06 and A04C18 — Choosing the Right Configuration

The three C-option suffixes in the M3001A A04 family represent distinct additions to the A04 standard package. The C06 adds an invasive pressure/temperature channel only, with no 12-lead ECG. The C12 adds 12-lead ECG only, with no invasive pressure or temperature. The C18 combines both. For facilities evaluating which A04-series configuration suits a given care area, the decision follows the same logic as the A02 series: if 12-lead ECG documentation is the requirement and hemodynamic monitoring is handled by a separate system, the A04C12 is the appropriate and most focused choice. For environments that need both 12-lead ECG and arterial line or temperature monitoring in a single Hardware Revision C OxiMax MMS module, the A04C18 is the correct selection. If invasive pressure or temperature capability needs to be added to an existing A04C12 fleet without replacing modules, the M3012A or M3015A MMS extension can provide that channel.

Patient Data Portability and Trend Storage

The M3001A A04C12 stores its complete patient record internally. Up to eight hours of numeric trend data at one-minute resolution — spanning ECG-derived values, SpO2, respiration, and NBP — is held within the module rather than on the host monitor. Patient demographic information and active measurement settings, including ECG lead configuration and display preferences, are also resident in the module. When the A04C12 docks to a new IntelliVue host, this complete record uploads automatically without manual re-entry, and 12-lead ECG capability is immediately available without reconfiguration. The module retains the full patient record for up to six hours while disconnected, supporting handoffs between care areas without data loss.

Adding Pressure and Temperature to A04C12 Fleets

Facilities standardized on the A04C12 that occasionally need invasive pressure or temperature monitoring at specific beds can address that need through MMS extension modules without replacing units. The M3012A Measurement Server Extension attaches directly to the M3001A and provides an invasive pressure channel and a temperature channel, adding C06-equivalent hemodynamic capability to any A04C12 when the extension is connected. The M3015A extension adds sidestream CO2 capnography along with an additional pressure/temperature channel. The M3016A adds mainstream CO2. These extensions inherit power and connectivity from the host monitor through the module, requiring no separate power supplies or additional MSL cables. Because the A04C12 uses Hardware Revision C internal components, biomedical teams should confirm the hardware revision of any MMS extension units sourced for pairing with A04C12 modules, as extension compatibility follows the same revision-awareness principles as the module itself.

Host Monitor Connectivity and System Integration

The M3001A A04C12 connects to compatible IntelliVue host monitors in either the direct-dock configuration or the remote configuration via MSL cable. Once connected, all monitoring, alarm, and configuration functions are managed through the host monitor’s interface. The A04C12 is compatible with the full IntelliVue MP-series platform (MP20 through MP90), the MX-series monitors, and the M3046A (M/M4 series) running Release E or higher software. Biomedical staff should verify that the specific host monitor’s software revision is supported by the Hardware Revision C platform before deploying A04C12 units in a mixed-revision fleet. When the host monitor is networked to the IntelliVue Information Center, all measurement data — including 12-lead ECG captures — flows transparently for central monitoring, trend archiving, ECG storage and retrieval, and clinical reporting.
