They combine two parameters in a single sensor — external uterine activity (Toco) and maternal pulse (MP) — and enable the Avalon platform’s Smart Pulse automated coincidence detection, which cross-checks the maternal pulse against the fetal heart rate to confirm the host monitor is not inadvertently tracking maternal heart rate as fetal.
