Brand History

Kendall SCD History: Kendall, Covidien, Medtronic and Cardinal Health

The Kendall SCD line has changed owners several times. If your controller says Kendall, Tyco Healthcare, Covidien or Medtronic, here is where it fits and what that means for service today.

  1. Before 2007

    Kendall and Tyco Healthcare

Kendall develops sequential gradient compression in the 1970s and builds the SCD line. Tyco acquires Kendall in 1994, and it becomes part of Tyco Healthcare.

  2. 2007

    Covidien

Tyco spins off its healthcare businesses as Covidien on June 29, 2007, and the Kendall SCD system becomes a Covidien product.

  3. 2015

    Medtronic buys Covidien

Medtronic completes its roughly $49.9 billion acquisition of Covidien on January 26, 2015.

  4. 2017

    Cardinal Health

Cardinal Health buys Medtronic’s Patient Care, Deep Vein Thrombosis and Nutritional Insufficiency businesses for $6.1 billion on July 29, 2017, including the Kendall brand and SCD compression systems.

What this means for your fleet

An SCD 700 labeled Covidien, Medtronic or Cardinal Health is the same controller platform. IPR Medical repairs SCD 700 controllers in-house, tests them to OEM specifications and backs every repair with a 90-day warranty. The same ownership chain applies to Kangaroo feeding pumps; see our Kangaroo repair page.

FAQ

SCD 700 Repair Questions

Do you service Kendall SCD 700 compression controllers?

Yes. We repair SCD 700 controllers, including cases, handles, displays, MPU boards and batteries, and perform annual PM.

Who makes the Kendall SCD 700 now?

Cardinal Health. The Kendall SCD line passed from Tyco Healthcare to Covidien in 2007 and to Medtronic in 2015, and Cardinal Health bought it with Medtronic’s Patient Care and DVT businesses in 2017.

Do you offer preventive maintenance and calibration?

Yes. Preventive maintenance and calibration are a flat fee. Contact us or call (855) 477-8866 and we will confirm pricing for your models.

Do you provide loaner units during repair?

We don’t offer loaners. If a unit isn’t worth repairing, you can decline the estimate and we can credit that unit toward a recertified unit.

How do I send my equipment in?

Submit an RMA request online. We email you a free inbound shipping label (FedEx or UPS), and you pack and ship your equipment to our Tustin, California facility.

What does it cost if I decline the repair?

Nothing. For customers in the United States, the shipping label, the evaluation and the return of declined equipment are free. Some large or specialty equipment carries an evaluation fee, and we always tell you before you send it in.

Do your repairs come with a warranty?

Yes. Every repair includes a 90-day warranty. Recertified equipment we sell comes with a 6-month or 1-year warranty depending on the model.
