B. Braun hosts the current U.S. Infusomat Space Instructions for Use for Software U (valid for software 586U) on bbraunusa.com, and you can download an earlier 586U edition, the Infusomat Space pump set catalog and the Space system brochure below. Always match the manual to the software version shown on your pump’s start-up screen. The Infusomat Space delivers 0.1 to 1200 mL/h with ±5% rate accuracy, offers nine downstream occlusion levels from 225 to 900 mmHg, runs on a NiMH or Li-Ion battery pack, and B. Braun recommends a documented Technical Safety Check every two years.
Whether you are training new staff, checking an alarm at the bedside or setting up a biomed PM program, the right Infusomat Space document saves time. This guide collects the documents we host, explains which one you need, and pulls out the specifications and reference details people ask us about most.

Which Infusomat Space Manual Do You Need?
The Instructions for Use state on the cover which software they are valid for, and recommend that all pumps at your institution run the same software version. The pump shows its software version during the start-up self-test, and you can also find it in the Status menu. Here is how the documents fit together:
| Document | Who uses it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Instructions for Use (by software version) | Clinicians, educators, biomed | Both editions linked above are valid for software 586U (Version U). Pumps on earlier 686-series software (Versions E, F and G) need the edition written for that software; request it from B. Braun. |
| Pump sets catalog | Clinicians, materials management | The pump is intended for use only with dedicated Infusomat Space disposables. The 2010 catalog is a starting point; confirm current catalog numbers with B. Braun. |
| Service manual and HiBaSeD service program instructions | Biomedical technicians | The Instructions for Use refer to the HiBaSeD service program for pump logs, configuration and calibration, and say service manuals and service training are available from B. Braun. Not hosted here. |
| SpaceStation, SpaceStation MRI and Battery Pack SP with WiFi instructions | Biomed, IT | Separate documents for the docking station, MRI use and wireless battery module. |
Not sure which software your pump runs, or whether a recall applies? Our Infusomat Space recall and software versions guide explains how to check and what the FDA-tracked notices mean.

Infusomat Space Pump Sets
The Instructions for Use say the Infusomat Space is intended for use only with dedicated disposables labeled for each route of administration, and that the technical data were determined with the Infusomat Space line 870 0036 SP. The manual lists these set families:
- 15 drop sets
- 60 drop sets
- Blood sets
- Epidural sets
- Filtered sets
The 2010 pump set catalog adds burette, add-on, low adsorption and UV-resistant sets with ULTRASITE or SAFELINE injection sites. Several Infusomat Space administration set lots and catalog numbers have been the subject of FDA recalls, including corrections for false air-in-line alarms and backcheck valve backflow; see our recall and software versions guide before you rely on older set stock.
Quick Reference from the Manual
| Topic | What the manual says |
|---|---|
| Software version | Displayed with Self-test active at power-up, and in the Status menu. |
| Device alarm | Switch the pump off and on; if the device alarm repeats, the pump must be sent for service. |
| Battery storage | Before storage of more than 5 months, fully charge the battery pack and remove it from the pump. |
| Battery maintenance | The pump asks for a maintenance cycle every 30 days when enabled; the full cycle takes about 12 hours. |
| Battery life | Approximately 500 charge cycles before lifetime decreases; a symbol blinking for more than 1 hour on AC means the battery should be checked. |
| Safety check | Technical Safety Check recommended every 2 years and documented; a dropped pump must be checked by service. |
| Cleaning | Earlier 586U edition we host: mild soapy water, then disinfectants containing 1-propanol, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol or didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride; no chloride (bleach) products. Current B. Braun-hosted edition: adds diisobutylphenoxyethyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride and sodium hypochlorite, but still no bleach on the peristaltic fingers and membrane. Never spray disinfectant directly on the pump; the earlier edition adds to let it dry at least 20 minutes. |
| Connectors | Keep fluid out of the P2 and P3 connectors; cover P2 with an unplugged power supply or combi lead plug while cleaning, then inspect for moisture and plating damage. |
| Mounting | Up to three Space pumps per pole clamp; do not position the pump over the patient or lean on it; do not use a damaged pole clamp. |
| Stuck door | Use the crank key stored in the battery compartment cover to remove the emergency aperture cover and turn the door open. |

Infusomat Space Manual FAQ
Where can I download the Infusomat Space Instructions for Use?
B. Braun publishes the current U.S. Instructions for Use for Software U (586U) on its website, linked above. You can also download an earlier 586U edition, the pump set catalog and the Space system brochure from this page.
How do I find the software version on an Infusomat Space?
The software version is displayed with the Self-test active message when you turn the pump on. You can also open the Status menu from the Home screen and scroll to the version.
What is the flow rate range of the Infusomat Space?
0.1 to 1200 mL/h, with ±5% rate accuracy according to IEC/EN 60601-2-24. Facilities can also configure lower maximum limits for continuous and bolus rates in the pump configuration file.
How long does the Infusomat Space battery last?
The 586U Instructions for Use list 4.0 hours at 100 mL/h for the Li-Ion pack with wireless active, 12.0 hours with wireless inactive, and 13 hours for the NiMH pack. Recharging takes approximately 6 hours.
Can the Infusomat Space be used in MRI?
Not on its own. The manual says the pump is unsafe as a standalone device near MRI equipment and can be used conditionally in the MR environment only within the SpaceStation MRI, following its instructions.
Can I use bleach to clean an Infusomat Space?
It depends on the edition. The earlier 586U edition we host says not to use chloride (bleach) products. The current B. Braun-hosted edition lists sodium hypochlorite as an approved disinfectant for the housing but still prohibits bleach on the peristaltic fingers and membrane. Follow the edition that matches your pumps and B. Braun’s current guidance.
How often does an Infusomat Space need a safety check?
B. Braun recommends a documented Technical Safety Check every two years, and the manual requires a pump that has been dropped or exposed to force to be checked by service. If you need a pump serviced, request a free shipping label and we will evaluate it.
