Overview

The Philips IntelliVue M3012A (Option C00) is the base hemodynamic configuration of the IntelliVue Measurement Server Extension. It attaches directly to the top of the M3001A Multi-Measurement Module to add two independent invasive pressure channels, two independent temperature channels, and one combined pressure/temperature connector — the full hemodynamic channel set without cardiac output capability. The C00 is the appropriate selection for ICU and critical care environments where the clinical workflow requires simultaneous arterial and hemodynamic pressure monitoring alongside temperature, but formal cardiac output measurement via pulmonary artery catheter is not indicated for the patient population in that care area. It resolves the fundamental constraint of the M3001A’s single shared C06 or C18 connector, which can support either pressure or temperature at a given time but not both simultaneously. With the M3012A C00 attached, the combined M3001A + M3012A assembly can support arterial line pressure on one channel, CVP or PA pressure on another, and continuous temperature monitoring from one or two probe sites — all running concurrently alongside the M3001A’s core ECG, SpO2, NBP, and respiration parameters. The assembly stores up to eight hours of trend data and all calibration settings internally, traveling with the patient during transport and uploading automatically when connected to a new IntelliVue host monitor.

Dual Invasive Pressure Channels

The M3012A C00 provides two fully independent invasive pressure channels. Each channel delivers a continuous pressure waveform and systolic, diastolic, and mean numeric values, with waveform labeling, scale settings, alarm thresholds, and zeroing all managed through the host IntelliVue monitor’s interface. The two channels operate simultaneously and independently, making the C00 appropriate for patients requiring two active pressure lines at the same time. Common clinical configurations include arterial pressure on one channel and central venous pressure on the other, or bilateral arterial monitoring, or arterial and pulmonary artery pressure. Each channel connects to a compatible invasive pressure transducer via Philips-approved IBP adapter cables in BD, Utah, and B. Braun connector styles. Zeroing settings for both pressure channels are stored in the M3012A and preserved during patient transport, meaning the clinical team does not need to re-zero pressure lines when the patient arrives at a new IntelliVue host monitor.

Dual Temperature Channels and Combined Pressure/Temperature Connector

The M3012A C00 also provides two fully independent temperature channels, each accepting a compatible temperature probe and displaying continuous temperature numeric values through the host IntelliVue monitor. The two independent channels allow simultaneous monitoring from two separate probe sites — for example, esophageal and skin temperature, or two core temperature locations — when bilateral temperature tracking is clinically indicated. In addition to the two dedicated temperature channels, the M3012A includes one combined pressure/temperature connector that follows the same shared-connector design as the M3001A’s C06 port. This connector accepts either an invasive pressure transducer or a temperature probe, but pressure and temperature cannot be used simultaneously on this single shared connector. In most clinical configurations, this combined connector provides a third available connection point for whichever measurement type is needed, used in combination with the two independent channels on each side.

C00 vs. C05 and C10 — Selecting the Right Option

The M3012A C00 is the right configuration for care areas where invasive hemodynamic pressure monitoring and temperature measurement are routine, but cardiac output measurement via pulmonary artery catheter is not. General medical and surgical ICUs, cardiovascular step-down units, and high-acuity transport environments where PA catheters are rarely or never used will find the C00 provides everything needed without the additional complexity and cost of the cardiac output options. For cardiac surgical ICUs, hemodynamic instability cases, or any environment where PA catheters and formal cardiac output measurement are standard practice, Option C05 adds bolus thermodilution cardiac output to the same dual pressure and temperature channel set. Option C10 extends further to include continuous cardiac output for patients requiring real-time trending rather than periodic spot measurements. From a secondary market perspective, C05 and C10 units carry additional cardiac output circuitry that is not present in C00 units, which is relevant when evaluating parts sourcing and repair scope for a given unit.

Why the M3012A C00 — Resolving the M3001A Single-Channel Constraint

Every M3001A variant with a C06 or C18 option provides a single shared connector that accepts either an invasive pressure transducer or a temperature probe — but not both at the same time. This is confirmed in Philips OEM service documentation and applies to all C06 and C18 configurations regardless of the A-option SpO2 variant. For patients who require both an active arterial line and a temperature probe simultaneously, the M3001A alone cannot meet that need. The M3012A C00 is the OEM-defined solution — attaching directly to any M3001A, it provides the dedicated independent channels needed to run pressure and temperature at the same time. For M3001A standard or C12 configurations that have no pressure or temperature connector at all, the M3012A C00 provides the entire hemodynamic channel set from scratch. This universal compatibility across all M3001A option configurations makes the M3012A C00 a standard hemodynamic expansion unit applicable to every M3001A deployment scenario.

Transport and Data Portability

The M3012A C00 + M3001A combined assembly is designed for patient transport. The M3012A stores patient demographics, calibration data for all active pressure and temperature channels, and up to eight hours of trend data within the unit. When the assembly connects to a new IntelliVue host monitor, this complete record uploads automatically without manual re-entry, and pressure channel zeroing settings are preserved — the clinical team does not need to reconfigure or re-zero the pressure lines after a monitor swap or room transfer. The combined assembly can travel with a portable IntelliVue monitor connected via MSL or be held in hand during short transport episodes. The M3012A weighs 0.99 lb (450 g) and measures 7.8 x 3.8 x 3.5 inches — compact enough to maintain a manageable overall assembly size when stacked with the M3001A.

Host Monitor Connectivity and System Integration

The M3012A C00 receives power and communicates with the IntelliVue host monitor entirely through its attachment to the M3001A. No additional MSL cable or separate power supply is required. The combined M3001A + M3012A assembly connects to any compatible IntelliVue host monitor — MP20 through MP90, MX-series monitors, and the M3046A (M/M4 series, Release E and later) — in either the direct-dock or remote MSL-cable configuration. All measurement data from the M3012A, including pressure waveforms, temperature numerics, and derived values, flows to the host monitor for display, alarming, and trend storage alongside the M3001A’s core parameters. When the host monitor is networked to the IntelliVue Information Center, hemodynamic data from the M3012A is included in the central monitoring feed, trend archives, and clinical documentation without any additional configuration.
