The sensor uses a hard shell finger clip with a spring hinge that holds the emitter and detector in consistent alignment across the fingertip, making it well suited for spot checks and short-term continuous monitoring at the bedside. It is sized for adult patients weighing more than 66 lbs (30 kg). The 9.8 ft (3.0 m) cable terminates in a 20-pin Masimo Red connector that mates directly with the device. When to Replace Your 2054 Red DCI-dc12 SpO2 Sensor

Long direct-connect cables get stepped on, pinched in bed rails, and coiled repeatedly, so wear shows up along the cable as well as at the clip hinge, the finger pads, and the 20-pin connector. Replace the sensor when the clip no longer closes firmly, the finger pads are torn or hardened, the emitter or detector windows are scratched or discolored, the connector is cracked or has bent pins, or the cable shows cuts, kinks, or exposed shielding. Persistent “sensor off” alarms or readings that drop out when the cable is moved also point to a failing sensor. If a sensor fails to read on a monitor that passes self-test, try a known-good sensor to isolate the fault quickly.
