Philips IntelliVue M3001A Multi-Measurement Module | Option A01C12, 12-Lead ECG & FAST SpO2
The Philips IntelliVue M3001A (Option A01C12) is the 12-lead ECG configuration of the IntelliVue Multi-Measurement Module with Philips FAST SpO2. Building on the A01 standard package — ECG, arrhythmia, ST, respiration, FAST SpO2, and oscillometric NBP — the C12 option adds conventional 12-lead ECG capture capability and EASI-derived 12-lead ECG using only 5 electrodes. The A01C12 is the correct choice for facilities that require diagnostic-quality 12-lead ECG at the bedside alongside continuous monitoring but do not need invasive pressure or temperature measurement in the MMS module itself. It is widely deployed in step-down units, telemetry floors, cardiac monitoring environments, and pre-/post-procedure areas where 12-lead ECG documentation is a standard clinical workflow. As with all M3001A variants, patient demographics, trend data, and measurement settings are stored within the module and travel with the patient between IntelliVue host monitors.

Overview
The Philips IntelliVue M3001A (Option A01C12) is the 12-lead ECG configuration of the IntelliVue Multi-Measurement Module with Philips FAST SpO2. The C12 option adds conventional 12-lead ECG capture and EASI-derived 12-lead ECG capability to the A01 standard parameter set — ECG, arrhythmia, ST, respiration, FAST SpO2, and oscillometric NBP — without adding invasive pressure or temperature. For facilities that require documented, diagnostic-quality 12-lead ECG recordings alongside continuous monitoring but do not routinely require hemodynamic line monitoring within the MMS module itself, the A01C12 is the precise configuration. It avoids the additional cost and connector complexity of the A01C18 while delivering the full 12-lead and EASI capability that distinguishes C12 and C18 options from the basic A01 standard package. The A01C12 is widely deployed in step-down units, telemetry environments, cardiac monitored beds, pre-procedure areas, and any care setting where 12-lead ECG documentation is a standard clinical workflow and invasive hemodynamic monitoring is either handled by a separate system or not routinely required. As with all M3001A variants, patient demographics, up to eight hours of trend data at one-minute resolution, and active measurement settings are stored in the module and travel with the patient between compatible IntelliVue host monitors.
12-Lead ECG — Conventional Capture and EASI
The C12 option provides two distinct paths to 12-lead ECG data, both available within the same module configuration. Conventional 12-lead ECG uses a 10-electrode lead set connected to a compatible 10-lead trunk cable. When used with a compatible IntelliVue host monitor, the module delivers diagnostic signal quality as defined in the ANSI/AAMI EC11-1991 standard — the same quality required for formal clinical ECG interpretation and documentation. Any number of electrodes between 3 and 10 can be used for ongoing ECG monitoring using conventional lead placements, giving the clinical team flexibility to apply fewer electrodes for routine rhythm monitoring while applying the full 10-electrode set when a documented 12-lead capture is needed. When connected to the IntelliVue Information Center iX, 12-lead ECG captures can be transmitted to and stored in a compatible ECG management system, and previously stored ECGs can be retrieved at the bedside. EASI ECG provides an alternative path to 12-lead data using only 5 electrodes placed in the EASI configuration. The EASI method derives 12-lead ECG waveforms mathematically from the 5-electrode signal, reducing the number of patient connections, minimizing interference with clinical procedures, and improving patient comfort during extended monitoring. EASI is particularly useful in transport environments, post-operative recovery, and situations where access to the patient’s chest is limited. Up to 12-lead ST segment analysis with configurable alarm thresholds and QT/QTc interval monitoring are also available, extending the cardiac monitoring capability of the A01C12 well beyond basic rhythm surveillance.
A01C12 vs. A01C06 and A01C18 — Choosing the Right Configuration
The three C-option suffixes represent distinct additions to the A01 standard package. The C06 adds invasive pressure/temperature capability only, with no 12-lead ECG. The C12 adds 12-lead ECG only, with no invasive pressure or temperature. The C18 combines both. For facilities evaluating which configuration is right for a given care area, the decision is straightforward: if 12-lead ECG documentation is required and hemodynamic line monitoring will be handled by a separate system — such as a standalone pressure module, a Flexible Module Rack, or a different monitoring configuration — the A01C12 is the appropriate and most cost-efficient choice. For ICU or cardiovascular step-down environments where both 12-lead ECG and arterial line monitoring are required within the same MMS, the A01C18 is the correct selection. Facilities that need invasive pressure or temperature but not 12-lead ECG should source the A01C06. If invasive pressure or temperature capability needs to be added to an existing A01C12 fleet without changing the modules, the M3012A or M3015A MMS extension modules can provide that channel.
Philips FAST SpO2 and NBP
The Philips FAST SpO2 technology in the A01C12 provides SpO2 saturation, pulse rate, and a real-time plethysmogram waveform. FAST SpO2 is compatible with the full range of Nellcor OxiMax sensors, including the MAX-FAST forehead sensor and non-adhesive SoftCare sensors, connecting directly to the module’s SpO2 port via the standard D-Connect interface without an adapter cable. Non-invasive blood pressure measurement uses the oscillometric method with adult, pediatric, and neonatal modes available through the host IntelliVue monitor’s interface. Manual, automatic, and stat NBP modes are supported, with each result automatically entered into the module’s trend record alongside SpO2, ECG, and respiration values. The NBP pneumatic assembly requires a calibration performance check once every two years per OEM service documentation.
Patient Data Portability and Trend Storage
The M3001A A01C12 stores its complete patient record internally. Up to eight hours of numeric trend data at one-minute resolution — spanning ECG-derived values, SpO2, respiration rate, and NBP — is held within the module rather than on the host monitor. Patient demographic information and active measurement settings, including ECG lead configuration and display preferences, are also resident in the module. When the A01C12 docks to a new IntelliVue host, this complete record uploads automatically without manual re-entry, and the 12-lead ECG capability is immediately available on the new host without any reconfiguration. The module retains the full patient record for up to six hours while disconnected from any host, supporting clean handoffs between care areas without data loss. In step-down and telemetry environments where patients are frequently moved between rooms or units, this architecture ensures the full monitoring history — including any 12-lead ECG captures and trend data — remains with the patient throughout their stay.
Adding Pressure and Temperature to A01C12 Fleets
Facilities that have standardized on the A01C12 but occasionally need invasive pressure or temperature monitoring at specific beds can address that need through MMS extension modules without replacing the A01C12 units. The M3012A Measurement Server Extension attaches directly to the M3001A and provides an additional invasive pressure channel and a temperature channel, effectively adding C06-equivalent capability to an A01C12 module when the extension is connected. The M3015A extension adds sidestream CO2 capnography along with an additional pressure/temperature channel. The M3016A adds mainstream CO2. These extensions attach physically to the M3001A, inherit power and connectivity from the host monitor through the module, and require no separate power supply or additional MSL cable. This approach allows facilities to maintain a uniform A01C12 MMS fleet while selectively adding hemodynamic capability at specific beds through extensions, rather than maintaining mixed A01C12 and A01C18 inventories.
Host Monitor Connectivity and System Integration
The M3001A A01C12 connects to compatible IntelliVue host monitors in either the direct-dock configuration or the remote configuration via MSL cable. Once connected, all monitoring, alarm, and configuration functions are managed through the host monitor’s interface. The A01C12 is compatible with the full IntelliVue MP-series platform (MP20 through MP90), the MX-series monitors, and the M3046A (M/M4 series) running Release E or higher software. When the host monitor is networked to the IntelliVue Information Center, all measurement data from the A01C12 — including 12-lead ECG captures — flows transparently for central monitoring, trend archiving, ECG storage and retrieval, and clinical reporting alongside all other networked patient data.
